Wellness Week - Mrs Power
Wellness Week
Hi girls !
How are you all? π I hope you received the envelope I sent you !! It has activities and worksheets to do over the next few weeks. For the month of June, we will have a Wellness Week, Virtual School Tour Week, Green Schools Week and finally Active Schools Week ! I love to hear from you so email me anytime to say hello or with photos. I love to see them and hear what you have been up to !
So this week is all about wellness and well-being. ‘Well-being is
- feeling good and strong in your mind and body
- enjoying life and having fun
- getting along with and helping others
- knowing and using your strengths
- feeling grateful
- coping with the normal problems and disappointments of life
- feeling proud of yourself for doing your best
- accepting that you are okay just as you are.’
To stay well we need to be active, we need to have fun, we need to have time to relax, we need to be creative and get a good night’s sleep! Try to focus on this for the coming week.
Monday – Be Mindful
Mindfulness is all about being mindful which is paying attention to what you are doing right now and not what you did earlier or might do later ! For example, if you go for a walk, try to focus on your senses. Pay attention to and enjoy what you hear, maybe the birds tweeting, traffic in the distance, the wind. Now, enjoy what you see – nature all around you, the clouds in the sky, the trees swaying in the breeze, birds flying around happily. How about your sense of smell and touch? Maybe you can feel the sun or wind on your face? Or the smells of freshly-cut grass etc.
Here are some short videos to help you become more mindful.

Listen to some relaxing music and complete your mindfulness colouring today. ‘Be Kind. Be Creative. Be Brave. Be you !’
Here is some nice gentle music to listen to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HrkXT5Bc9E or you may remember this one ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8GrqUSdzi0
Do you remember when we repeated positive affirmations to ourselves in the little mirrors? I have posted one here for each day for you to repeat to yourself.
Today’s one is ‘I am an amazing, unique person.’

Tuesday – Be Happy. Be proud of yourself.
You are very special. You are unique! There’s nobody quite like you. We learned the song ‘What I Am’ at school. Can you remember the actions we made up to go with it? Sing along with this video and the lyrics I sent you. It is a great song about being proud of yourself and all your wonderful talents and abilities.

We can help ourselves feel good by remembering happy times we’ve had. Complete your Memories Worksheet today. I know it’s been a while since you were in class but go back in time, cast your mind back to Room 4. Can you remember where you sat?! Who was at your table?! What was on the walls of the classroom. Scan the classroom in your mind.
So, doing your best work, draw and colour your memories. Who did you enjoy sitting beside? What did you enjoy doing? What did you enjoy learning about? Have you any funny memories? It’s up to you how you decorate your worksheet. There is no wrong way. Once completed, keep your worksheet in a safe place until we are back at school when this worksheet will be collected.
Today’s Positive Affirmation: ‘There is no one better to be than myself.’

Wednesday – Be calm.
Yoga is excellent for wellness. Choose to do some of these yoga videos;

Yoga Poses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho9uttOZdOQ
Yoga with Adriene: https://yogawithadriene.com/yoga-for-kids/
Cooking and baking are very mindful activities as you must concentrate to make sure you follow the ingredients and instructions carefully. Why not choose something nice to make or bake with help from a grown-up, it could be something healthy or a treat ! Here are some suggestions;
Scones
Muffins
Chocolate brownies
Cookies
Smoothies
Brown Bread
Perhaps give Ms Cronin’s bake-off a go !
Today’s positive affirmation is ‘It’s ok to make mistakes and to not know everything.’
Sing and dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUdeIFQtDYU
Thursday – Be Grateful
We often spoke a lot about being grateful in class. Do you remember our gratitude notebooks? Remember to be grateful is to be thankful.
Listen to the story ‘The Gratitude Jar’
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TYvJh5Cwvw
Why not make your own gratitude jar or even a family one! Think about those little moments during the day when good things happen. Maybe you played a fun game, watched a funny movie, created something interesting, had a nice lunch or dinner, noticed something beautiful in nature. Be grateful and thankful for it. Decorate your jar with stickers or paper or nothing at all! Every day, write one or two things you are thankful for. ‘I am thankful for …… because…..’ They could be big things or small things. It’s up to you. Now and then, read the notes in the jar.
- Make a thank you card or write a thank you letter to someone.
- Enjoy doing the gratitude scavenger hunt today. Perhaps make a display at home. Or put some of the items you are grateful for into your jar.
- Here is a story to listen to called ‘Take Five’ by Niall Breslin (Bressie). It encourages us to be grateful for what we have especially when sometimes we are envious of others.

Today’s positive affirmation is : ‘I can ask for help when I need it.’

Friday - Be Kind
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
In this story, the tree was so kind to the boy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFQZfeHq9wo
Focus on being kind today. Kind to your mum, your siblings, to nature but most of all be kind to yourself. Remember our story, ‘Have you filled a bucket today?’ See if you can fill a bucket today and remember, by filling a bucket, you are filling your own bucket too !
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEg38zCOMgk
Draw a picture of you as a Super Hero! Write lots of positive words around your drawing– your talents, your abilities, your qualitites e.g. great handwriter, sporty, thoughtful, artistic etc. Maybe someone in you family might add in some words too that you’ve forgotten.
Today’s positive affirmation: ‘I can be kind no matter what.’
Now, choose your favourite affirmation from the week and make a poster of it for your bedroom !
Sing and dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-diB65scQU
If you wish, continue to work through your Spellbound and Mental Maths book.
And of course keep reading girls !
