Stay in Touch 1st Class Room 6!

26th Apr 2020

Hi Girls!!

It was so good to talk to all of you and your parents on the phone during the week. Lovely to hear your beautiful voices and hear all the great things you are doing at home while you are staying safe with just your families.

Next week we will be able to communicate with each other one to one through email so maybe if your parents have time you could email me a message about something you enjoyed doing from the list of homework/activities we’ve covered or some news or pictures of work or photos. Whatever is easy! Can’t wait to hear from you!

Email to: mobriencashelgirls@gmail.com

I’m including some extra work below. Do what you can and are able to do and what your parents are happy for you to do.

Try and read every day and write news or diary at least once a week.

Bluebells are everywhere and in my garden!

Stay safe. Talk soon. Miss you.

Lots of hugs,

Ms. Maggie O’Brien.

Work for 27th April to May 1st

Continue with work already assigned or start more if you are ready!

Maths:

  • Maths Challenge: P. 39+40 (Test 35+36).
  • Continue to use Khan Academy App to revise topics.

Revision of Number/100 Square/Place Value/Addition:

  • Planet maths110, 111, 112, 113, 119 (some of you might have some of these pages finished so revise the work here).
  • You have a 100 square in your diary or there is one in Maths challenge or Planet Maths. Practise these activities:
  • Count forwards
  • Count backwards
  • Count forwards/backwards from different starting points.
  • Tap head for odd and shoulders for even in turn to a rhythm.
  • Count in 2’s, 5’s, 10’s
  • Practice counting in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s without the 100 square – forwards and backwards. Here are some games to help:

1.https://content.folensonline.ie/programmes/PlanetMaths/PM1/resources/activitya/pm_1c_112/index.html

2.Buzz: Count with a partner. Say 1 then partner says 2 etc. You can throw a ball back and forth also when counting. For numbers in the 5 pattern you say ‘buzz’ instead of the number. For example ‘1, 2, 3, 4, buzz, 6, 7, 8, 9, buzz.’ This game can be used for numbers in the 2 pattern. For example, ‘1, buzz, 3, buzz, 5, buzz etc. and 10 pattern. Don’t forget to count forwards and backwards.

  • Remember how useful we found the hundred square for adding and subtracting tens and units.

To find 36 + 28, first find 36 and+ 20 by going down 2 (this is 2 tens)  to 56 then + 8 by counting across 8 places (this is 8 units) to 64 so 36+28=64

To find 46-24 first find 46 and -20 by going up 2 to 26 and -4 by counting back 4 to 22 so 46-24=22
