Room 10 Assignments for 2nd -5th June 2020.

29th May 2020

Hello 6th class.

I hope you are all well and keeping safe. The weather has been magnificent this past week and I can see from your photos that you have been out enjoying it.  Play as much as you can outside and get your vitamin D for those bones, skin and hair. We wait a long time in Ireland for the wonderful warm balmy days of Summer. So enjoy and remember the sunscreen!!!

You will be receiving your work packs in the post soon so look out for them. I have included a lot of things in the pack that will be used over the coming weeks so please please mind them and put them in a safe place.  There are things in the pack,  2 triangles for signatures ( they are in the other brown envelop. Don't lose them!!), confirmation workbook pages, autographs etc)  that I will be collecting from you sometime in June. I will be putting them together as a keepsake for you.

The other brown envelop which is included in the pack is for collecting pieces of artwork, time capsule pieces, signatures, handprints, funny incidents etc.

We are planning a Zoom meeting with 6th class on Tuesday afternoon. Your parents will receive a text from us on Monday with details of the meeting. There, we hope to chat to you about things regarding activities that 6th class usually get done in school. Obviously we won't be in school now until September. So keep an eye on the website and look out for text messages.

It is important that everyone participates in it 100%.  It would be disappointing if all of 6th class didn’t take part and produce the work. When we look back at our memories we want to see everybody’s contribution.

Over the next few weeks we will be doing lots of fun activities like Wellness week, Active schools week, Green schools week.

This week is Wellness Week. There are only 4 days in this week but I still included a  weeks work to include Mindful Monday.. The activities are fun and not at all difficult to complete.

Note: All the activities prepared this week are just a menu. Pick and choose the activities you want to do.

VIRTUAL BUNSALE 2020.

Miss Cronin also put together a virtual bunsale Powerpoint as we had none this year and prepared a great Kahoot for some light entertainment.

( I did it. It was a bit of fun!!)  Also take some photos of your creations and email them to me or Miss Cronin.  You can dress up for the bunsale too. Usually we would have had a theme for our 6th class bunsale. So pick a theme you would like and go for it!!!  You can also display your buns on lovely cake stands or on plates.  The bunsale  will be different this year but this virtual bunsale will be great fun too! So get baking and be as creative as you want!!

There will be prizes for the most imaginative buns and anyone who sends a photograph will get a ticket and be entered into a draw. A person can only enter once. All details are on Miss Cronin’s post on the website. Check it out first and read it  before you get started. There are some great recipes favourites there from some of the teachers.  Bunsale will take place on Friday June 5th

A jigsaw piece has been included in you work packs which are in the post. The jigsaw piece will be used to create an art installation later when we return to school.  The theme is “WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER”. I  am asking you to draw a picture on the jigsaw piece which reflects this theme.Ideas might range from frontline workers/essential workers/people staying at home/ washing our hands etc.

There is no need to include the words "we are all in this together" as it will be the heading on the completed art piece. Just write your name and class in small writing at the bottom of the jigsaw piece, on the front. In later years we will want to see who drew it. I look forward to seeing your art pieces.

-Work that you still unfinished, continue to complete it this week.

-Continue to do one Maths Challenge everyday please.

-If you have any articles for "The Scribbler", please submit them to Ms. Perdue on her email.

Wellness Week 2020.

Mindful Monday.

  • Screen free evening.
  • Read a book/ do some art/paint a sunset.
  • Get 10+ hours sleep.
  • DEAC worksheet. (Drop Everything And Colour)
  • Do 5 Random acts of kindness throughout the day.
  • Pick a “Secret” family member and leave them notes with compliments on it, take their dishes to the dishwasher, let them watch what they want on TV, dress their bed, pamper them for the day. Do whatever you can to make them feel special

Thankful Tuesday.

  • Make a gratitude jar and decorate it. Fill it with things you are thankful for.
  • Create an acrostic poem for GRATITUDE.
  • Write a thankful letter to a friend/family member
  • End the day by getting everyone in the house to list 3 things you are all grateful for.
  • Walk in my shoes
  • It is often difficult to understand  what another person is going through or how they feel when they are going through difficult or challenging times.  So design/decorate a pair of old runners/flip flops in any way you want.  Or simply make a pair of shoes  from cardboard and decorate them.
  • See pictures at the end of this document for inspiration

Wellness Wednesday.

  • Make a positive emotion potion picture-list positive emotions and draw them in a bottle, assign different colours to different emotions.

A special group of emotions called Positive emotions.  It is not possible to have positive emotions all the time , but we know that having plenty of positive emotion every day can help our wellbeing. Scientific research shows that we should have three positive emotions to balance one negative emotion. Here are some positive emotions (Pride, Interest, Belonging, Excitement, Amusement, Awe, Zest, Peace, Love and Gratitude).  What might give rise to these emotion for you. List some of these in your emotion potion.

  • As someone what your character strengths are? Find ways to use these strengths to help others.
  • Draw a picture showing  your strengths.
  • Have a “Rainbow Moment”…List 3 good things that happened yesterday. These moments relate to the little parts of our day where things go well for us, such as enjoying playing with a friend or noticing something beautiful in nature.  Our brains naturally look for bad things in our day and with Rainbow Moments, we are re-training our brains to notice and pay attention to the small, simple, positive things that occur on a daily basis.
  • Print out this wellbeing calendar and do one of the activities each day.
