Rock of Cashel Trip.
Fourth class were busy learning about the Rock of Cashel this month, from its origin as the fort of King Corc to its use as an important place of worship right up to the 15th Century.
As part of their study of this local historic site the girls visited the Rock of Cashel site on Wednesday 17th June.
On reaching the Rock of Cashel the girls marvelled at the spectacular views from of the surrounding countryside from the limestone hilltop.
Our tour guide for the day, George, showed us around the various buildings on the site, the Round Tower, Cormac's Chapel, St. Patrick's Cathedral and the Hall of the Vicars Choral. He entertained the girls with stories of the conversion of Aengus by St. Patrick and the life of the members of the Vicar's Choral. The girls got the opportunity to see frescoes from the 12th Century, a sarcophagus and St. Patrick's High Cross.
The trip to the Rock of Cashel was very enjoyable and the girls got a great insight into life in this remarkable site through the ages.
