Letter re : Mask wearing in primary schools
30th November 2021
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I’m sure you heard the announcement on this evening’s news from the Department of Education on the implementation of wearing of face masks in school for children from Third Class upwards. See the full text of the guidance attached.
I would like to make you aware that schools got no prior notice of this announcement and we heard the news at the same time as everyone else.
The wearing of masks is supposed to take effect immediately. However I think it is prudent that we take a little time in order to give opportunity to you, the parents, to provide your child/ren with appropriate masks and to give us in school time to put proper arrangements in place. Therefore I would ask that from Monday next onwards all pupils in Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Classes have and wear masks unless there is a particular reason for not wearing one in line with the guidelines. The Board of Management will meet and will issue further guidance to you over the next few days.
The wearing of masks is a very new development for the children in our school and it will bring challenges for us all. As adults we, the staff, wear masks all day and therefore we understand how hard it can be. However, with rising infection rates we have to do all we can for the health and safety of all in our school community.
We ask as always for your co-operation.
Yours sincerely,
Mary Andrews (Principal)
