Hi everyone!
I hope that you are all keeping well and staying safe. I just wanted to say hello and let you all know that I am thinking of you. While I was out walking with my son Oisin I started thinking about all the fun activities I had planned for our next Greenschool flag ‘Global Citizenship and Marine Life’. I have put together a couple of fun activities you might like to try when you’re at home. You can choose anything you like, and anyone can do them (even if you’re not on the Green school’s Committee!)
The picture on the top is a visit to my local river the other day called The Kings river. The Kings River (Irish: Abhainn Rí) flows through County Tipperary and County Kilkenny. It is a tributary of the River Nore. A tributary is a smaller stream or river that flows into a bigger one. The source (start) of the river is in the Slieveardagh hills (which is near my house). It has lots of little tributaries which join up to make bigger streams and they flow together to make a river. The Kings River continues to flow from where I live on into Callan and Kilkenny before joining the River Nore. The picture underneath shows you how big it is by the time it gets to Kells in County Kilkenny.
While we were at the river, we looked in the river to see if there was anything in there! We saw lots of things and thankfully no rubbish! There were lots of pebbles and stones, plants were growing too, and the water was very clear. We saw tiny little fish that we call locally as breachins but further up the river you can see small salmon and trout. I was very pleased to see the river water so clear.
Our next flag looks at the water in the seas. We know that there is lots of plastic in our seas and some of this comes from what we put/ throw in our rivers! I have some activities for you to do and help you learn about the different creatures and animals that live in our seas.

- You can also do a picture of a fish or plant that you found when reading.

Remember
- Keep recycling your rubbish correctly
- Reuse containers where you can to reduce waste
- Turn off lights when they are not being used
- Don’t waste water or energy so turn off taps and lights around the house.
- Be kind to everyone at home and remember all the people that are helping us to keep us safe and healthy.
- Plant some seeds at home
