Information letter re. re-opening of Girls' School.

21st Aug 2020

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff Members,

Another week has passed and the return the school has become closer. Much planning and preparation has been happening to prepare a response plan for our return.  The full response plan will be published on the website next week. Outlined below are some of the main decisions that  have been made  by the Board of Management working in consultation with the management of the Boys School and the Deanery School. Our school complex has a population of over 650 pupils and 60 staff and the management of such numbers in order to comply with government regulations and advice has been challenging to say the least.  It has been necessary to introduce measures such as staggering arrival and dismissal of pupils to lessen the volume of people inside and outside building at particularly busy times. All decisions have been taken to ensure the health and safety of all in our school community and indeed the wider community in light of the current COVID 19 pandemic.

Re-opening Dates – Senior Infants to Sixth Class

Each class will have ONE day induction (Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday) to get children used to the many new procedures  now in place.

2nd and 6th  Classes ONLY on Tuesday 1st September. These pupils then return to school on Friday

1st, 3rd and 4th ONLY on Wednesday, 2nd September. These pupils then return to school on Friday

Senior Infants and 5th Class ONLY on Thursday 3rd September and return again on Friday.

All classes come to school on Friday, 4th September.

Reopening Dates – Junior Infants

Junior Infants will attend every day from Tuesday 1st September to Friday 11th September  from 10am to 12pm

From Monday, 14th September Junior Infants will be in school to 2pm each day

A letter will issue separately to Junior Infant parents with the specific arrangements  for the first day of school.

Drop-off in the morning

Arrangements are in place to spread out the arrival of pupils in the morning in an effort to enable social distancing. Families are requested to stagger their arrival based on the following

9.00am – 9.10am Families with a surname from A-L

9.10am – 9.20am Families with surname from M-Z

The children will enter the building through two entrances – the main door and the door near the carpark. Teachers will show the children these new arrangements on their induction day. On the first day all enter by main door. Children will go directly to their classrooms where they will be supervised. Staff members will be available outside and inside the building to receive the children and guide them to their classrooms.

All teachers and SNAs will be in school at 9am as part of our communal Covid response. All arrangements will be reviewed at midterm.

The children may not come onto the school grounds before 9am under any circumstances in order to minimise risk and to help us to maintain physical distancing within the class bubbles on school property. From 9am children only are to enter the school grounds (Junior Infant parents will be allowed on the grounds for the first two weeks only)

Collection in the Afternoon

Junior Infants  collected at 12pm for the first two weeks and at 2pm from 14th September. Collection point is door at carpark

Senior Infants collected at 2pm. Collection point is main door

First Class collected at 2.15pm until October mid-term. Please note the change of time from our usual practice. We feel the shorter day will help our first class pupils making the transition from infants somewhat easier.

2nd, 3rd,4th classes at 2.45pm.

5th 6th classes at 3pm

Please note it will not be possible for parents/guardians/minders to come onto the school grounds after school other than those of pupils in Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class. These parents will be in appropriate physically distanced area.

Homework

There will be no homework for the month of September. Suitable arrangements will be put in place after that.  Also we will be exploring different on line platforms during the month with the possibility of using these going forward.

School Bags

All books, copies, stationery as per booklist must be brought to school in school bag on the first day back. All these items will be left in school. School bags must not be brought after that first day until further notice. The only items to be brought to school for the month of September will be the childs lunch and water bottle.

Lunches.

Please ensure that children bring their lunches to school to avoid adults having to come into the building during the day. Children may not share food or drinks with other children. Lunch boxes/bags are permitted but must be washes each evening.

Books, Copies, Pencils

Children must only use their own books, pencils, colours etc and must not share with other pupils. Everything should be labelled with pupils name.

Pencil cases will be left in school and will not be going home until further notice.

Uniform/Tracksuit

Pupils in Infants, 1st, 2nd wear tracksuit on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and will wear grey uniform on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Pupils in 3rd, 4th,5th 6th wear grey uniform on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and wear tracksuit on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We strongly advise that children should wear their uniforms or tracksuits only for school related activities. Uniforms or tracksuits should be taken off straight after the child arrives home for the day. Regular washing is recommended

We are very aware that some of these decisions will impact on parents but rest assured that much care and consideration has gone into all decisions. We rely on your support to ensure the measures put in place are effective so that we have a smooth return to school.

The staff and myself are so looking forward to welcoming back our wonderful girls. Much has changed but we look forward to a safe and happy year ahead.

Yours sincerely,

Mary Andrews
