Hore Abbey
3rd Nov 2014
Sixth Class visited Hore Abbey in October as part of their local history trail. It also tied into their studies of monasteries and the Golden Age in Ireland, as well as the Dark Age in Europe.
Hore Abbey is a beautiful example of a monastic site which wsa originally dedicated to the Benedictine Order and was subsequently take over by the Cistercians. Many features are still to be seen, though their uses changed over time.
The girls had a very informative and educational visit, which will stick with them for years to come. Thanks to Jan who came with us to Hore Abbey.
