Green School Award Ceremony
There was great excitement in our school when we received confirmation from An Taisce that our application for our fifth green flag was successful.
On May 20th, three pupil representatives from the Green School Committee travelled to Kilkenny with Miss. Noonan, where they attended the Green School Award Ceremony.
The Green School initiative is now in it's 18th year and 94% of schools in Ireland are registered with An Taisce Green Schools. Our school was one of 54 schools in County Tipperary to be presented with a Green Flag at the ceremony, 11 of these schools were presented with their biodiversity flag.
Congratulations to all the pupils, staff and parents in our school who played a vital role in attaining this green flag, by supporting and promoting environmental issues and sustainability. Whether you took part in our B.F.F. days or entered a photograph in our Biodiversity Photograph Competition you have played your part in making our school a greener place.
Congratulations in particular to the very hardworking members of the Green School Committee who worked so diligently over the past two years promoting and increasing biodiversity in our school. If you take a walk around our school grounds you will see evidence of all that they have achieved from installing water butts and new composters to setting up bird feeding stations and from labelling the trees in our school grounds to installing a log pile.
The committe would like to thank everyone for their help in getting the Green Flag. In particular the Committee would like to thank Willie (our caretaker), Séamus Kennedy for providing us with the logs for our log pile, Maria Nevyn (T.Y. Co-ordinator), Mr. Scully and his T.Y. engineering students in Cashel Community School for making beautiful labels for our trees.
