Attendance Notice
6th July 2022
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
As we come to the end of another year, I am writing to you regarding attendance.
With the high rate of Covid 19 in our community, at times this year, it is inevitable that many pupils have high number of absences. That said, our responsibilities as a school to maintain attendance records for all students remains the same. We are required by law to inform the Child and Family Agency's educational welfare services of all children who have been absent for 20 days or more and when we feel a child has an attendance issue.
Many pupils in our school had absences in excess of 20 days this year. In the vast majority of cases, pupil absences were explained and for the most part pupils were absent through illness or isolation. The school has reported these absences in the normal way but will not be informing Tusla – Child and Family Agency that it is concerned about your child’s attendance.
In a small number of cases, the school has concerns about a child’s attendance, in these cases referrals have been made to the Education Welfare Officer in accordance with the school’s legal requirement under the Education Welfare Act. Where a referral has been made, parents have been notified.
The school attendance procedures are laid out in the School Attendance Policy and the Statement of Strategy for School Attendance both of which are available on the school website www.cashelgirlsschool.ie
As a school we endeavour to support parents in their duty to ensure that their child attends school. Should any parent wish to discuss their child’s attendance or to request a copy of their child’s attendance record I can be contacted at gkealycashelgirls@gmail.com
Le gach dea-ghui,
Yours sincerely,
