Assignments for 25th -29th May 2020
Hi 6th class,
Another week has passed and we are almost at the end of May. I really miss being in school and seeing you all. I hope you and your families are all well and safe and that you are doing your part at home to help out and do your work.
This week I am asking you all to get busy as we prepare to go into June. The next few weeks will be about making memories for 6th class and actually getting things down on paper so you will have them as keepsakes in the future. You won’t appreciate them now but in 10 years time, you definitely will!!! I’m sure some of your older sisters still have their 6th class memories somewhere also.
The next few weeks are going to be busy as we tie up the last few threads in 6th class. So stay motivated, tuned in and keep an eye on the school website . It’s for your benefit!! To achieve these things though, we have to put in a huge effort to push these things over the line and above all we need participation. We also want to produce things that we will be proud of in the future. So get busy 6th class. Be creative and enjoy!!!

Mrs. Kealy and I are putting a “shout out” for your photos of when you were small. We always do this for 6th class at this time of the year. The photos must be school related and can have your friends or family in it. You can email these to us at our school emails or post them if its easier. Make sure if you are posting them to put your name on the back of them so we know who owns them and can return them!! We have received some already and you all look so small and full of wonder. Keep them coming! |

Assignments for 25th May- 29th May 2020.
Maths. · This week we are revising Co-ordinates and Area/Perimeter. PM 6 p191 ( Co-ordinates) and p113(area) Remember in co-ordinates the y-axis is the vertical line and the x-axis is the horizontal line. When reading co-ordinates, we first read off the x-axis and then the y-axis (You will remember me saying “Go out and up”). Therefore, co-ordinate (4,7) 4 is the x co-ordinate and 7 is the y co-ordinate. I know you are all able to plot the co-ordinates on a grid so I have put in a few different activities this time round. Note: when using the CONFUCIS table (bottom of p191 and top of p192), the letters C,O,N,F,U,I, S were put in on the grid first. Then A, B, D, E, G, H, J….etc were added. You will notice C is already in, so is F and I as they are in the word CONFUCIS. You fill in the grid alphabetically thereafter. Look at the grid on p 191 of PM 6. · Do PM 6 p191 A Q1 e&f, A Q2, A Q3. · Do PM 6 p192 A Q1 d&e, A Q2-4. Also do B Q1-4. · Try this game “Bombs on the grid”. I could not drive the car. You have a go!! https://www.mathnook.com/math/skill/coordinategridgames.php · Area= L x W for a regular square/rectangle. All irregular shapes must be made regular first. Look at the examples at the top of page 113. · I have also put in metres, ares and hectares. (Metre squared is the smallest unit of measurement and the hectare is the biggest unit of measurement). Look at the drawings down the side to explain what each measurement is. Have a go at converting ares to hectares and so on. You might ask if mam or dad can help you to see the difference between 1 metre squared, an are and a hectare. That means going outside and doing some measuring with a measuring tape in a green open area. · Do PM 6 p113 A Q1-3, p114 a Q1&2 a-c, p114 B Q1-3 a&b, p116 B Q1&2 d-f, p116 C Q1-5. There is no need to do every question on the page. Just the ones I assigned. · 1) Draw out your bedroom on a sheet to scale. When we talk about scale , we draw the diagram so it fits on the page. But that isn’t the actual size of the room etc. Use the scale 1:40, which actually means 1cm on the page is equal to 40cm of your room in real life. You may use a different scale if you find it easier. Calculate the area and the perimeter of your room. 2) You could overlay a grid for co-ordinates on the map later and hide treasure in the different places in your room. Maybe a younger sibling would like to do a treasure hunt with you and find the treasure you have hidden in the room just for fun!!! · Tables. X7 and ÷7 · www.topmarks.co.uk is a good website to go to practise maths. Find your topic and age group. · You can access your maths book on www.folensonline.ie or use the download provided · Maths Challenge. Continue to do one each day. We should be on test 86-90 this week. If you are not on these tests, don’t worry at all. Continue to do a test everyday. |

English. · No more Spellbound. We are finished!! Hooray!
· These are 3 topics I’d like 6th class to write about....MEMORIES!!!! Please do them separately on an A4 sheet and decorate. Mrs. Andrews has a purpose for these which we will tell you about later in the term. 1. Write about your first day at school.(Memories) Include how you felt?/how your parents felt?/ who brought you to school?/ who you meet at school first?/ who you sat beside?/ who your teacher was?/ did you know anyone else? How?/what activity did you do in school that day?/ who collected you?/ how did you get on that day? 2. Looking back, write about a funny incident that happened in school. (6th class memories) It may have happened in any class. What happened that was so funny?/ What class did it happen in?/ who was the teacher?/ Who was involved when this funny incident happened?/ why is it so memorable and has stuck in your brain? 3. Your aspirations for the future. Look at the poem “Oh the places you’ll go “ in Word Wizard 6 p98. You can log into www.gillexplore.ie/products as a student, PRIMARY section and use the ebook or its at the end of this document as a download.
· Complete Section B,C an D on p99 Word Wizard 6 also. 4. We are not stuck at home. We are safe. ( Time Capsule tasks to be opened in 2030) On this page I want you to think of all the things you’ve been doing while at home. Pick 6 things and write a sentence about it and draw/colour a small picture beside it. I have a download at the end of the document for you to look at. 6th class can easily draw this out. No need to print it. 5. Special occasions that occurred during Covid 19. (Time Capsule task) On this page, I want you to think of occasions that occurred during Covid 19. In our house we celebrated 3 birthdays in lockdown, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter…etc I have a download at the end of the document for you to look at. 6th class can easily draw this out too. No need to print it. 6. Miss Perdue is putting together an e-edition of “The Scribbler”. She is looking for poems, stories, cartoon strips, movie reviews, recipes, games,drawings, jokes etc. Anything really that could go into the magazine.
