All Ireland Ceoldrama Glory!
Third and fourth classes are walking on air having once again been crowned All-Ireland Champions by An Cumann Scoildramaiochta.
This is an organisation which promotes music, song, dance and drama "as Gaeilge" in both primary and secondary schools. Third and fourth classes take part in this All-Ireland competition every second year.
The show this year was called "# Le Blianta Anuas", an exploration into the changes which have come about over the last number of decades - ranging from communication, transport, cinema, music and sport. The show took the format of a school project undertaken by some "paisti oga" with the help of their grandparents Mamo and Daideo. The girls mastered an array of songs "as Gaeilge", composed dances to accompany these sogs and perfected numerous comedy acts. Every girl in third and fourth class had a specific part in the show and was given her moment of glory on teh stage.
All the hard work paid off on Friday 6th March when a judge visited the school to view the performace and delighted the girls with the news that they had qualified for the Munster final - Feile Mumhan - in Fermoy on the 12th March. The girls pulled out a great show in Fermoy which assured them a of a place in the All Ireland - An Feile Naisiunta.
So all roads led to Mullungar on Friday 24th March when they set off for Mullingar. They took to the stage with gusto and put on the performace of a lifetime much to the sheer delight of their parents and supporters who rewarded them with rapturous applause and a standing ovation!
Since the competition is a week-long event, it was a nail-biting wait for a few days before the results were announced. It was with great pride and excitement that we received news of our victory and a delegation went to Croke Park to bring teh All Ireland trophy back to the school for the fourth time!
