Active Schools Week in Room12 (22nd-26th)

19th Jun 2020

Hi girls,

I hope you and your families are all well! I hope you enjoyed Green Schools week last week and learned lots while having lots of fun!

This week is my favourite week of the year, Active Schools Week!! You’ve all been so wonderful to keep up with your work and all the activities we’ve asked you to do this month so I know you'll keep it up for one more week! Mrs Cawley and I have put together a plan for the week which you’ll find in your work pack and it’s also on the Active School section of the website if you want to have a look there! Miss Ryan (1st class) helped us out by putting a dance video together so make sure you ‘Move it, move it!’ with Miss Ryan this week! Check out some more activities you can do below. Please do send me on any pictures of what you get up to during Active Schools week! amyryancashelgirls@gmail.com

Cashel library have launched their Summer Stars Reading Challenge. It’s running from the 15th June until the end of August. I know some of you took part in it last year and really enjoyed it. I’d encourage you all to get involved! You can drop into the library to pick up your card and find out more or check out www.summerstars.ie

Don't forget to keep an eye on https://www.wizardingworld.com/ to keep up to date with the latest Harry Potter chapters. I really hope you continue to watch, listen or read and that you love the story as much as I do!

I can’t believe that this week marks your last week in 5th class! I’m sure you (and your parents!) are jumping for joy that the summer holidays have finally arrived and I hope you all have a fantastic summer break! However, I’m so disappointed that I didn’t get to finish out the year with the most enthusiastic and loveliest class in the school! I’m going to miss you all very much. You are a wonderful bunch of girls and I’ve really enjoyed being your teacher! You’ll all be brilliant in 6th class! I wish you all the best for next year.

Well done again to you and your parents for all of your hard work! This homeschooling business hasn’t been easy for you but you’ve been brilliant! I think we can all agree that we’ll be bursting to get back into our classrooms in September!

Have a great Active Schools week and a great summer girlies!!

Take care of yourselves!

Sending love,

Ms Ryan.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHoErQuFw_4 (Older classes will be well able for this one.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho9uttOZdOQ (This is a trickier one for the older girls!)

Dance video

Miss Ryan has put together a dance video that you can all learn during the week! You can do this as many times as you like! You’ll find it on the Active Schools section of the website. Hope you enjoy it!

Activity Chart

Fill in the 60 minute a day chart attached below. Make sure you meet your 60 minutes of activity per day!

Active Schools Week Times (from your work pack)

Write a report on all the activities you did during Active Schools Week. You might like to do one paragraph per day. This is a personal piece so include your opinions; which activities you enjoyed the most, which you found difficult and why etc.

Wordsearch (from your work pack)

Complete the Active Schools and Ag Deireadh na Scoilbhliana wordsearches from your work pack.

Favorite Sporting Moment

Draw a picture of your favorite sporting moment of all time and write a paragraph about it. It could be personal to you (a time you won a medal/played an important match/beat your siblings in a race!) or it could be about your favorite team or sportsperson.

Sports Photo Challenge

Choose your favorite sporting photograph and try to recreate it yourself at home. You can use any of the ones I've put up here or any other sporting photo that you like. You may need to rope in family members as teammates! Please send your photos to me by email. I'd love to see them!

Active Schools Poem

Write an acrostic poem for Active Schools Week or write a poem in the ABCB rhyming pattern (the 2nd and 4th line of each stanza rhyme) like the example below:

If School were more like Baseball

If school were more like baseball               (A)
we’d only have to play.                            (B)
We’d hang out in the sunshine                   (C)
and run around all day.                            (B)

We wouldn’t have to study.                         (A)
We’d practice and we’d train.                     (B)
And, best of all, they’d cancel                     (C)
whenever there was rain.                          (B)
