Room 10: Active schools week 2020

20th Jun 2020

Hi 6th class.

It's week 15 since lockdown and we have made it to the end of the school year!!! What a school year it has been?! It is one I will never forget and that's for sure. But you and your parents/guardians have been magnificent and I want to commend you all for your huge efforts in engaging with the home/school assignments that I set each week.

I want to thank you also for emailing me your work each week and taking part in all the photo challenges  etc. I set. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing what you were all doing and even though we weren't together physically in school, I felt we achieved a lot of learning objectives throughout the lockdown. A lot of "life skills and lessons" were also learned and that sometimes is as important as the academic learning.

I hope you will forever remember the quality time you got to spend with family members without all the hectic running and racing that would normally go on. These memories and strengthened relationships will endure in your hearts long after Covid 19 is a thing relegated to the history books.

Your support was much appreciated during this time. Thank you all so much.

6th class this week also marks the end of your amazing journey in St. John the Baptist G.P.S , Cashel. Can you believe your eight years with us is over?  I hope you look back over your career here with us and remember all the times you had here. All the teachers who taught you and those who may not have, but you may have minded their class or may have looked after you on the yard.I hope the good memories out weigh the others.  I hope you remember all the fun activities we had each year and the funny things that happened that made you laugh.

To quote Nelson Mandela, first black president of South Africa " Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world". He is so right and it is something we take for granted until it is taken away. Use your education wisely to make your change in the world.

I have missed and will miss you all. You were a great group of girls to deal with and to teach. I will remember you fondly as "The Lockdown Class of  2020".

Best wishes now and always.

Aileen Flanagan.

Make sure to look at the website on Friday, 26th  June girls. You will enjoy it!!

Thank you all for handing back your books. If you find anything at home later, please drop it into the school office.

Cashel library are also running a Reading Stars programme for the summer for all ages. Its a great way to get books and it is one of the most important things you could do to enhance your learning. READ, READ, READ. If you are interested you will find a post on the website about it.

If School were more like Baseball

If school were more like baseball               (A)
we’d only have to play.                             (B)
We’d hang out in the sunshine                   (C)
and run around all day.                             (B)

We wouldn’t have to study.                         (A)
We’d practice and we’d train.                     (B)
And, best of all, they’d cancel                     (C)
whenever there was rain.                           (B)
