1st Room 6 Ms.O'Brien's Busy Bees' Work for 18th May!

17th May 2020

Hello again my lovely ladies!

I had a very pleasurable week reading your emails, getting all the news and looking at the beautiful photos you sent. So many of them! Such a great way to get a glimpse of each other’s lives at home, the work you are doing and how you are keeping yourselves busy and happy. I hope you got to see the photos posted this weekend.

I have put together some new work and there’s more work on regrouping in maths so I hope that is going ok for you? Email me if you have difficulties.

This week there’s lots of resources for you on Ethiopia so enjoy the videos, powerpoints, dance and music. The extra activities again are for 2 weeks and there are many exciting things there to keep you smiling. If you make an instrument, make Ethiopian art, learn a ball game, crack how to add with regrouping, whatever you enjoyed doing from your work, take a snap and send it to me.

Miss you all a LOT!!!!

Big squeezy hugs,

Ms.O’Brien xxxxxxxxx

Ethiopia:

So far this year we have learned all about the country of Spain.

Now it’s time to learn all about a very unique country in Africa called Ethiopia!

  • Take a look at the 2 Powerpoint Presentations below. One on Ethiopian facts and the other “A day in the life of Tesfanish” a 12-year-old Ethiopian girl. You will see the script for each slide if you don’t go into full screen.
  • Then watch some videos.
  • Great video telling us about Ethiopia.

  • Catchy song telling us more

  • Eskista a traditional Ethiopian Dance

  • Now here are some of my favourite videos on Ethiopia which I would be showing you over the next few weeks if we were in school. Why not look at a different one every day over the next 2 weeks. You will see how different their lives are to ours.

History/P.E.:

  • Dance the Eskista (Ethiopian dance). It’s all in the shoulders!!
  • Find out the name of a simple ball game your Grandparents/Parents used to play when they were young at home.
  • Learn the rules of the game and play it.
  • Sevens might be one of them. All you need is yourself a wall and a ball to play it.

1.throw ball against wall and catch (no bounce)

2. throw ball against wall, bounce, catch

3.throw ball against wall, slap your foot, bounce , catch

4.throw ball against wall, clap, bounce, catch

5.throw ball against wall, tip the ground, bounce, catch

6.throw ball against wall, turn around, bounce, catch

7.throw ball underleg against the wall , bounce, catch

When you are able to do each one in order without a mistake repeat each one twice then 3 times all the way to 7 times. Practice makes perfect.
